Disney Channel Diversity

Disney Channel is one of the most popular children’s television channels, well known for their shows such as Suite Life of Zack and Cody, Hannah Montana, and That’s So Raven. With all shows being equally unique, Disney Channel is known for their brand in which they maintain through all their shows throughout the years. Although it may seem as if Disney Channel is diverse, they mainly include characters of different races and ethnicities as background characters, and do not seem to take the spotlight often. Although Disney Channel has included shows where the main characters are African American such as That’s So Raven, Corey in the House, and K.C undercover, they fail to often include other ethnicities as the main characters.

My suggestion to this would be to possibly create a new television show, which includes several different characters of different ethnicities and races. The place of the show could also be placed in a diverse environment such as a performing arts school, or a school specifically dedicated to STEM and the sciences. Through a show such as this many things can be showcased such as, family traditions, cultural problems, and how different cultures and ethnicities can clash at times. Through this audiences can be exposed to new things, while learning about other people with other ethnicities. Also with such diversity, audiences can be inspired to be more understanding and more open to other cultures and activities. I believe that through a show such as this, Disney Channel can still maintain their brand while being more diverse and inspirational to audiences.

Through utilizing the arts and sciences, Disney Channel would be able to promote new and exciting merchandise, along with Disney Channel informational shorts that include tutorials and tips for activities in the arts and sciences. This can inspire audiences to engage more out of the television programming to engage in activities within the arts and sciences, as well as exploring other ethnicities and cultures.
